After 2 good years with OOBLife I decided to change to another coaching partner.
I want to see how fare I can go with triathlon. Is it possible for me to get stronger and faster in the age of 40? Can I make sub 1:30 on a half marathon, 3:15 on a marathon, 4:45 on an IM 70.3 and sub 10 on the full distance. Will Kona just be a distant dream or is it possible to qualify?
To help me answer these questions I signed up with M2Sportslab. M2Sportslab creates their training plan after thorough physiological tests and body scan. They measure your Lactate Threshold, V02 Max and a lot of other stuff by putting you through a run test, bike test and swim test in the lab in Odense Denmark.
I went through all 3 tests and beneath you can see the results.
Then on to the run test.
4 min 10 km/h
-1 min break
4 min 11 km/h
– 1 min break
4 min 12 km/h
– 1 min break
4 min 13 km/h
– 1 min break
4 min 14 km/h
– 10 min walk
After every interval my lactate was measured via a blood test in my fingertip.
The run test continued to the max test.
2 min 12 km/h 0% incline
2 min 13 km/h 0% incline
2 min 14 km/h 0% incline
1 ½ min 14 km/h 2% incline
1 ½ min 14 km/h 4% incline
1 ½ min 14 km/h 6% incline
1 ½ min 14 km/h 8% incline (we stopped after 8%)
Saturday morning we met in the pool near the test center Odense.
In the water I had to swim 5×200 meters starting out with 80% of my PB on the distance.
Each round was increased by 5% ending up in max. After each round my lactate vas measured again in my fingertips just on the other hand today.
After the swim Morten gave me a few hints on what I needed to work on in my swim to get faster.
Left hand entering the water.
The push (hand position)
Wider arms and higher elbows
I need to kick more.
Here are the results
We went straight from the pool to the test center to start the bike test.
I started with a 10 min warmup
4 min 175 W, lactate test within the last 30 sec.
4 min 200 W, lactate test within the last 30 sec.
4 min 225 W, lactate test within the last 30 sec.
4 min 250 W, lactate test within the last 30 sec.
4 min 275 W, lactate test within the last 30 sec.
4 min 300 W, lactate test within the last 30 sec.
4 min 325 W, lactate test within the last 30 sec.
10 min cool down.
Again a really hard test but with great guidance and completely in good hands with Marie and Morten.
After the test we went through my results and I got to ask questions.
To be honest a lot of these numbers and words are new to me, and I need to do a bit of research myself to satisfy my curiosity, but until I find the time I am complete safe in their hands and I just need to follow my training plan.
I’ve chosen to post this without any filters to let you follow me on my journey towards Challenge Roth 2019. The idea is to let you see how I’m improving with the proper guidance from M2Sportslab but also to motivate myself get out there and get my training done to be able to show you the results.
I hope you will be following my journey and feel free to ask me questions.
