Swim goggles test

OBS: This is NOT a scientific test but just my first impression of the swim goggles tested on my own face!swim goggle test

I have long been looking for the perfect pair of swim goggles. Over the last few years I have been trying over 10 different pair without finding one I can call my favorite.

That’s why I decided to test some of the most popular swim goggles on the marked here in Denmark. I have been so lucky that triudstyr.dk has offered to let me test 6 pairs of the goggles they have in their shop.

As I am a triathlete I will test the goggles in both a swimming pool and in Open Water.

The criteria I will score the goggles on are:

  • Shape and face fit
  • Water tight
  • Wide vision
  • Anti fog

The goggles I will be testing are the following

  1. speedo aquapulse max 2
  2. Zoggs Predator Flex Reactor Titanium
  3. Zoggs Ultima Air Titanium
  4. TYR Special Ops 2.0 Polarized
  5. Aqua Sphere Kayenne
  6. Aqua Sphere Kayenne Polarized

swim goggle testAs you might notice none of these are specific Open Water masks like Aqua Sphere Vista, Aqua Sphere Seal 2.0, Zoggs Tri-Vision eller Arena X-sight 2. I have tried all these but to be honest none of them fit my face. Some of them are letting water in, some are too tight and some hurts on my nose and forehead and gives me a headache shortly into the swim. I know a lot of people likes them and I’m sure that they are really good if they fit you the right way. I swam with Aqua Sphere Vista for Karrebæksminde ¼ distance this year. They kept the water out, the vision was clear, no fog but they were not comfortable on my face.

Back to the test.

I’ve tested the goggles in Croatia while I was on vacation.

I started the test in the pool. Air temperature 29 degrees Celcius, Water temperature 26 degrees Celcius.

I swam 200 meter crawl with each pair of goggles.

Then I changes location from the pool to the rocky beach for some Open Water test. Air temperature 29 degrees Celcius, Water temperature 24 degrees Celcius.

Again 200 meter crawl with each pair just in the ocean.swim goggle test

Here are my results.

Name: Speedo aquapulse max 2
Link: https://triudstyr.dk/shop/speedo-aquapulse-max-9060p.html
Price: 299 dkk
Shape and face fit: 5/5
Water tight: 5/5
Wide vision: 5/5
Anti fog: 5/5
Comment: Really great goggles. They are light and soft so you don’t really feel you are wearing them. They vision is wide and clear even with the UV filter. The only downside was for me the long double strap theat twisted and turned and was hard to control

Name: Zoggs Predator Flex Reactor Titanium
Link: https://triudstyr.dk/shop/zoggs-predator-flex-9957p.html
Price: 399 dkk
Shape and face fit: 3/5
Water tight: 5/5
Wide vision: 3/5
Anti fog: 5/5
Comment: Zoggs Predator Flex Reactor was a bit stiff and uncomfortable by the nose. They did not have the full 180 wide view and you could see the dark edges. The good part was that the came with a very nice case.

Name: Zoggs Ultima Air Titanium
Link: https://triudstyr.dk/shop/zoggs-ultima-air-9967p.html
Price: 239 dkk
Shape and face fit: 2/5
Water tight: 5/5
Wide vision: 4/5
Anti fog: 5/5
Comment: Zoggs Ultima Air are soft but the silicone frame for the eyes are in my opinion too small. The are for me a bit uncomfortable to wear as I feel they are putting pressure to my eyes. They are were bright and clear in both the pool and Open Water

swim goggle testName: TYR Special Ops 2.0 Polarized
Link: https://triudstyr.dk/shop/tyr-special-ops-7703p.html
Price: 288 dkk
Shape and face fit: 5/5
Water tight: 5/5
Wide vision: 5/5
Anti fog: 5/5
Comment: Really really nice goggles. Soft and comfortable with great fit and view in the water.

Name: Aqua Sphere Kayenne (Polarized)
Link: https://triudstyr.dk/shop/aqua-sphere-kayenne-1440p.html
Price: 299 dkk
Shape and face fit: 4/5
Water tight: 4/5
Wide vision: 5/5
Anti fog: 5/5
Comment: Aqua Sphere Kayenne was my favorite before this test as I swam with it for Ironman Austria last week. It’s a really nice goggle easy to adjust even within the water. It’s a bit more stiff the some of the other goggles I have tested and I’ve notices it can let a bit of water in when you are grinding your face trying to push hard in the water.

Conclusion:

It’s without a doubt 6 nice goggles I have tested today from TYR, AquaSphere, Speedo and Zoggs.
They are all worth the investment.

But I have to choose a winner.

The winner of this test is…….

TYR Special Ops 2.0 Polarized!!!

Closely followed up by Speedo aquapulse max 2

TYR and Speedo did both get maximum points in the test but I choose TYR over Speedo due to the strap on Speedo that gave me a few seconds of distress. But one thing is for sure, I need to buy both pairs for my swim bag.

A big thanks to Triudstyr.dk for letting me test the goggles.
